Just like any other media the world wide web provides opportunities for advertising. One of the most popular forms is banner advertising, whereby websites display an advert in the form of a banner. The sites usually charge for the privledge of carrying a banner, although there are circumstances where this is not the case i.e. banner exchange schemes. With a banner exchange your banner is displayed on other sites in exchange for you displaying other banners on your own.

Banner advertising on most websites that do not involve exchanging banners charge per thousand impressions (every time the banner is displayed on the hosts site counts as an impression). The charges for this vary from site to site and in the case of high profile sites like Yahoo and UKPLUS their is a minimum spend, which could be 1 or 2 thousand pounds or more.
