Search engines and directories are a very useful method for getting visitors to your website. If a person is looking for information, a product or a service then they will often do a search using a search engine (a database style website that contains links to thousands of websites that can be searched by a visitor). It is important that your website is listed prominently if your website is to succeed in this way.
